Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including angels, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of heroes who will separate from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might appear out of place, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as important members in House Halovar could help the team enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Explorers and Planners parties.

Fans can expect discovering which characters will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
